Director of Children, Youth and Family Ministries (DCYFM)

Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church seeks an outgoing, creative, faith-filled Director of Children, Youth and Family Ministries (DCYFM) to lead the management and delivery of our growing Christian Education program for children, youth and families. The DCYFM will work in partnership with our pastors, staff, and our Youth and Children’s Lay Ministries. Overall, the DCYFM will help foster an atmosphere of energy, faith and warmth in the religious education of our children and youth and will be responsible for the tasks set forth below.

Bradley Hills is a 650-member congregation in Bethesda, Maryland, just outside of Washington D.C. We are a diverse, spiritually focused, Christ-centered, caring community of friends who embrace each person’s life and spiritual journey. We have a strong tradition of worship, music, programs for children and families, outreach and mission projects, and engagement in faith through conversation. Our Interfaith witness is a hallmark of our campus, as we share our space with both a synagogue (Bethesda Jewish Congregation) and a mosque (Maqaame Ibrahim Islamic Center). Our building is a community center for several missional groups, including Bethesda Friends Club (for men with early Alzheimer’s) and our own BHPC Nursery School.

The tasks and responsibilities of the DCYFM include:

  • Leading the organization of the BHPC church school during the Sunday 10:30am service (church school slows down in the summer).
  • Teaching church classes as needed.
  • Assisting in the training of lay teachers who are familiar with the Bible and other instructional materials, but who may need guidance and advice.
  • Regularly leading the “Word with Children” at 10:30am Sunday service in rotation with other worship leaders.
  • Overseeing, coordinating. and leading youth fellowship, which meets after worship on most Sundays and, on occasion, some weekdays.
  • Organizing and leading youth summer mission/spiritual trips, in conjunction with pastors and lay leaders.
  • Overseeing the provision of nursery childcare workers, whose work may be paid or volunteer.
  • Helping to organize confirmation classes, in coordination with our pastors.
  • Leading and promoting Summer Vacation Bible School (a few days in August) and selecting the curriculum for it in cooperation with the relevant lay ministry and pastors.
  • Becoming part of a collegial church staff in a positive and flexible working environment.
  • Given the nature of this position, the DCYFM is expected to work in person at the church offices and to exercise good judgement in determining whether working remotely is most effective.

Candidate must have a B.A. degree from an accredited university or college and experience working with children in an educational setting.

Salary:  $60,000-$62,000 per year plus medical insurance, pension benefits, and paid vacation.
