How do we proclaim hope, peace, joy, and love in a world that often feels cruel and cold?  Join fellow teaching elders for a Preachers’ Lab led by Dr. Brennan Breed, Associate Professor of Old Testament at Princeton Theological Seminary and featured speaker at the March 2026 Continuing Education Gathering and Retreat.

For many generations, Christians have identified the four Sundays of Advent with the words hope, peace, joy, and love. Many Presbyterians have now incorporated seasonal liturgical practices like the lighting of Advent candles that focus on these themes. But after saying these words so many times––and hearing them repeatedly in advertising and political campaigns––is it possible to really hear them anymore? Drawing on biblical wisdom and practical experience, Dr. Breed will remind us of the radical and liberating message of God’s grace that these words still name, and we will discuss how to reclaim their authenticity and relevance as we preach with courage in today’s complex world.

Whether you are preparing for Advent, seeking renewed inspiration for your preaching ministry, or looking for ways to speak hope into difficult circumstances, this Preachers Lab offers a unique opportunity to learn alongside colleagues and engage with a gifted biblical scholar.

Come ready to wrestle with the challenges of contemporary preaching and discover new ways to proclaim God’s message of hope, peace, joy, and love.
