Rev. Alex Evangelisa began serving as the Stated Clerk of National Capital Presbytery in June of 2026. Alex brings a broad background in ministry and leadership, having served churches, small and large, in the Presbytery of Philadelphia and Peace River. He served as Assistant Clerk in the Presbytery of Philadelphia, chaired the Presbytery of Philadelphia’s Bills and Overtures committee, and currently serves on the Advisory Committee on the Constitution, a permanent committee of the General Assembly. A native Spanish speaker and the son of Salvadoran refugees, Alex graduated from Azusa Pacific University before earning his Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry in Leadership Studies at Columbia Theological Seminary. Alex is passionate about the role of polity as a life-giving resource for the church, describing the Book of Order as “a gift for thriving…that forms trust, clarifies purpose, encourages holy risk, and equips congregations to pursue mission with courage and joy.” He approaches leadership with a spirit of collaboration, seeking pathways forward that support God’s mission while honoring the church’s constitutional framework.

What Alex does:
- Maintains the presbytery’s rolls and records
- Serves as parliamentarian at presbytery meetings, and as a polity guide between meetings
- Advises congregational and presbytery leaders on implementing presbytery policies
- Fulfills constitutional duties related to church discipline
- Communicates presbytery decisions, and provides needed documentation
Who Alex resources:
- Regular staff support to Bills and Overtures Committee, Commission on Ministry, Commission on Preparation for Ministry, Committee on Representation, Leadership Council, Nominating Committee, Permanent Judicial Commission
- Presbytery officers and staff, committee chairs, clerks and moderators of sessions, regarding questions of polity
- Pastor nominating committees and search committees for temporary pastoral leadership, regarding terms of call/compensation
- NCP commissioners to the Synod of the Mid-Atlantic and the PCUSA General Assembly
- Investigating committees and presbytery committees of counsel in church disciplinary matters
