National Capital Presbytery seeks a Stated Clerk – What a gift to be part of a connectional church, one in which a congregation is not on its own in charting a course to serve God and love neighbor. What a gift to have accountability and resources for congregations in their pursuit of a faith that is not only alive and creative, but also decent and orderly as the Scriptures command. Our Presbytery has all kinds of churches which are serving their communities, and recognizing that abundance, our Presbytery is seeking a Stated Clerk.

  • Our Stated Clerk will be full time and an essential member of the Presbytery leadership team.
  • Our Clerk is the one who maintains the dashboard of who we are as a church. They help congregations keep accurate records and through those records tell the story of our church in transition. By knowing who we were, who we are and whose we are, and who we are becoming we can better pursue the mission God has set before us.
  • Our Clerk holds us accountable for how power is used in churches and how fair we are in our communal life. Yes, meeting minutes and those old Robert’s Rules of Order practices serve a greater good!
  • Our Clerk is skilled in assisting congregations in moving from the safety of paperwork into the real work of God. They will prompt us to see decency and good order as a means to an end and not an end in itself.
  • Our Clerk will help our presbytery and our churches craft creative way to get to a “yes” using the flexibility that is offered to us in the “New Form of Government” from the Book of Order.
  • Our Clerk will help identify, equip, and support Commissioned Ruling Elders (CREs) to use their gifts for ministry to support the congregational vitality of our churches.
